Together An Active Future
The Pennine Lancashire Sport England Local Delivery Pilot (LDP) – the Together an Active Future Team.
Helmshore Mills Textile Museum, Rossendale
To deliver an engaging event to launch the Pennine Lancashire Sport England LDP to physical activity providers and bring people together who want to be part of this exciting pilot.
To help people understand more about the ambitions of Together an Active Future.
To develop an understanding of the current Physical Activity offer, networks and synergies and share collective ideas that will strengthen this.
To help shape the Together an Active Future pilot going forwards so it makes a significant and sustainable difference to how active people in Pennine Lancashire are.
To start exploring how we can persuade the most inactive to become more active.
Sport England are undertaking pilot schemes in 12 varied places across the UK to try and better understand their different identities and help people to be(come) active in communities across the UK. We were asked to help deliver the Pennine Lancashire launch event for Together an Active Future.
Pennine Lancashire has a population of 534,000 and is made up of 6 districts which are Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Ribble Valley and Rossendale. At least 120,000 people (30%) in Pennine Lancashire are not doing enough to gain the benefits of physical activity. The pilot particularly wants to reach those with mental well-being issues.
Working together and doing things differently is in the DNA of Pennine Lancashire. This is the biggest investment ever to collaborate and scale up change. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to come together with a collective purpose and make a difference.
An afternoon and evening event took place on the same day and both sessions were facilitated by Dr Leon Cruickshank from Lancaster University. The interactive event format included a giant mapping exercise to map infrastructure and activity. By using this map as a starting point to understand where things are happening, we started to identify connections that can be made to help increase the awareness of what we already have, identify collaboration opportunities that can strengthen partners and start to identify areas where there may not currently be the opportunity for people to be as active as they could be.
