This morning I had a flying visit to the Venue Expo exhibition at Event City in Manchester. It was the first year that the show has run and the first exhibition of its kind in the North West region aimed at MICE Professionals. It was appreciated not having to travel to Yorkshire or London for similar events as we normally would have to! Here is our review/highlights from the exhibition.
There were well over 100 exhibitors and lots of familiar venues/suppliers and faces! It was particularly good to catch up with Sue and Alan from the DW Stadium, Colette from Liverpool Football Club and the team at the Villa Preston North End.
I also managed to catch a couple of seminar sessions including The ‘7 Habits of Effective Marketers‘ and ‘Social Video Marketing Techniques for your Next Event.‘ Both of
these sessions were worthwhile going along to and I will cover the key learning in more detail in a future posts.
It was useful to talk through the newest event spaces at Manchester Metropolitan University and to discover the
Friends Meeting House in Manchester, which wasn’t on our radar previously!
We particularly loved the Rock Box (pictures below) which is a beautiful retro vehicle complete with a roof terrace available to hire for events. It would be perfect for roadshows, festivals and outdoor events. Brands can have the vehicle fully wrapped with their branding too:
I was disappointed to miss the Leeds Metropolitan University Alumni reunion of the UK Centre for Events Management (UKCEM) on Monday but ironically I was too busy planning events to leave the office and go along! It was however great to meet and chat with the new Course Leader, James at their stand the following day. I did my Event Management degree at Leeds Met, which is the longest running event management course in the UK, celebrating 18 years almost to the day since the course was established.
Gamewagon showcased their video game booths at the show (vehicle and inflatable pod), as featured on the Gadget Show and popular for corporate events as well as childrens parties!
Our favourite stand was by Europa International and it was great to put the face to the Twitter handle and tweets from @Europa_Int!
We thought their stand was simple but effective with some of their furniture showcased on the roof of the stand and a practical and inviting area below (see right).
The largest banqueting space in Manchester (Event City) was shown off to its full advantage during the show too (picture right).
Further photos from the exhibition can be seen in the gallery at the bottom of this post.
The next Venue Expo exhibition will take place at the new Exhibition Centre in Liverpool next year (integrated with the ACC) 7th – 8th September 2015.
Did you attend the show? Did you find it worthwhile? What did you enjoy the most? What would you like to see next year from the exhibition?
